Household Decisions
When you are buying a house, there are many things that you have to consider before making a final decision. You have to consider the neighborhood first and foremost since that is where your children will go to school, where they will play outside every day, and interact with the people around your home. And that’s what it is, your home. You should be able to keep your plantation shutters wide open and feel like there’s nothing to worry about. You should be able to feel as comfortable as possible in your dwelling place and the neighborhood plays the biggest role in making you and your family safe and happy. But this is still only a small part of the decisions that you need to make when buying a home.
You also need to like your house. Lets try to bypass some of the obvious stuff like how much the house costs and the square footage. You need to talk about specifics like kitchen countertops and bathtubs and whether you want interior wood shutters, vinyl or plantation. You also need to decide on carpeting and yard size. If you have pets, I’m sure you will want to install a doggy door for your family pet. Perhaps garages are important to you and so are pools and a room that is big enough for a pool table. A wet bar would also be nice.
But we are getting ahead of ourselves. Another important thing about buying a house is the homeowner’s association that is a part of your neighborhood. If you aren’t careful, these people will drive you up a wall. Many people who buy their first home don’t even read the homeowner’s association packet that is handed to them when they move in. They flip through the rather hefty packet and they sign it without really understanding what they are getting themselves into. Maybe there’s a clause in the packet that says you can’t have vinyl shutters because they won’t match the shutters on everyone else’s homes. Some HOAs will make you do outrageous things that will set you back a pretty penny. So when you decide to pay that mortgage, it might be more than just the couple thousand a month since you will have to pay your homeowner’s association for recreation center fees. You’ll also have to contact them to make every little improvement on your house.
So when you’re looking for a house, be sure to look at every angle and don’t miss a thing.
